”I am both pleased and proud to have got the job of Secretary General of the Storting, and I would like to express my thanks for the confidence shown in me by this appointment. The Storting is an important institution, which it will be exciting to help develop,” said Ms Børresen.
The Presidium of the Storting is the nominating authority for the appointment of a new Secretary General. The Storting as a whole considered the Presidium’s recommendation, which was unanimously adopted.
The position of Secretary General is a fixed-term appointment of six years, with the option of renewal.
”I am delighted that Ida Børresen will be the new Secretary General. Ms Børresen has wide managerial and leadership experience within politically administered bodies, among these being Deputy Secretary General in the Ministry of Education and Research (2005-2006) and her current position as Director General of the Directorate of Immigration,” said Dag Terje Andersen, President of the Storting.
The Storting’s current Secretary General, Mr Hans Brattestå, who has held the position since 1990, will be retiring on 1 June this year.
Ida Børresen (61) has a degree in social sciences (cand.polit.) from the University of Oslo. She began work in 1982 as an executive officer in the Ministry of Justice and went on to be a principal officer there from 1987 to 1990. Between 1990 and 1998, she was a senior consultant/partner with the business consultancy company Stradec AS. In 1998 she was appointed as a director general in the Ministry of Education and Research, where she later became Deputy Secretary General (2005-2006). She was Acting Secretary General there for six months in 2004. In 2006, she took over as Director General at the Directorate of Immigration, her current position.
Ms Børresen has – and has had – a seat on a number of different boards, including chair of the Oslo Philharmonic board and a member of the board of the National Theatre.
