Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousefzai will begin their visit to the Storting by meeting President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen. Afterwards, the prizewinners will move to the Eidsvoll Gallery, where they will meet the press, sign the guest book and take part in the official photo shoot. They will conclude their visit by having a meeting with the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

In its grounds for awarding the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize to Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousefzai, the Nobel Institute stressed the importance both had made and continued to make in the struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to an education.

“This year’s Peace Prize gives children and young people hope”, says President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen. He points out that the prize casts the spotlight on participation in democracy.

“If children are deprived of the right to education and the opportunity to make the most of their abilities, it is not simply a tragedy for the children themselves, but it is destructive for society as a whole. A world in which children and adults are shaped by a secure upbringing – one in which everyone is given access to education and knowledge – is a world with a sound democratic base,” Thommessen added.
