President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen and Anne Brasseur, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Visit to the Storting in connection with the official 22 July commemoration ceremony in Oslo’s government quarter

On 21-22 July the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Anne Brasseur, will be visiting Norway.

President of the Storting Olemic Thommessen and Ingjerd Schou, the chair of the Storting’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, welcome Anne Brasseur, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, for a visit to Norway 21-22 July.

Accompanied by Olemic Thommessen, the President of the Storting, and Ingjerd Schou, the chair of the Storting’s PACE delegation, Brasseur will first pay a visit to the Nansen Academy in Lillehammer and to Aulestad, the home of the Norwegian poet and author Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. On the agenda are issues relating to democracy, dialogue and human rights.

On Wednesday, 22 July, Anne Brasseur will be present along with the President of the Storting and other members of the Presidium at the official commemoration ceremony in Oslo’s government quarter for the victims of the 22 July 2011 terrorist attacks in Norway.

Brasseur will deliver a short greeting to those assembled. Last year she, along with the President of the Storting, lent support to the “No Hate Speech” youth campaign’s proposal to establish 22 July as a European day memorializing hate-crime victims.

After the ceremony in the government quarter and a subsequent service of hope in Oslo Cathedral, Anne Brasseur will visit the European Wergeland Centre with Olemic Thommessen and Ingjerd Schou.
