Article 33 of the Constitution now reads “Norges Bank is the central bank of Norway.”

The Norwegian Constitution as amended in May 2016

This was the last time during the current parliamentary term that it was possible for constitutional matters to be considered by the Storting.

All motions for constitutional amendments must be put forward by one or more of the Members of the Storting. However, the basis for such proposals may be initiated by others. Motions for constitutional amendments must be put forward during one of the first three years of a parliamentary term. Such motions are then considered during the first, second or third years of the following term.

Unless otherwise specified within the amendment itself, constitutional amendments enter into force with immediate effect.
