Bekkevold observes presidential election in Moldova

Geir Jørgen Bekkevold (Christian Democratic Party) led the observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) during the second round of the presidential election in Moldova, on 13 November.

“Moldova, like all member states of the OSCE, has endorsed the principles of free and fair elections. It is our role to observe whether the election is conducted in line with these principles,” said Mr Bekkevold.

Some 30 parliamentarians from many of the OSCE’s member countries observed the first and second rounds of voting in Moldova’s presidential election. Mr Bekkevold led the delegation and spoke on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly during the press conference when the election was over.

“I note that there are some gaps in the legislative framework with regard to the implementation of the second round of voting, and that this allows too much room for interpretation,” Mr Bekkevold said during the concluding press conference in the capital, Chisinau.
