Peace Prize laureate visits the Storting

Denis Mukwege, one of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winners, came to the Storting on Tuesday 11 December to meet with President of the Storting Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen and the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.

The visit took place from 9:40 to 10:55 a.m. as part of Dr Mukwege’s official programme in Norway.

The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege for their struggle against the use of sexual violence as a weapon and tactic in war and armed conflict. Both laureates have been highly effective in highlighting and directly combating such war crimes, as noted in the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s citation. The prize was awarded on 10 December.

Nadia Murad departed Norway early on 11 December and therefore was unable to take part in the Storting visit.
