Mr Jóhannesson was received at the Storting by First Vice President Marit Nybakk.

“Norway and Iceland have had good bilateral cooperation over many years,” said Ms Nybakk. “The ties between our two countries extend far back into history. At the parliamentary level, the work in the Nordic Council and the Arctic Council is particularly important.”

“We are friends, neighbours and allies,” Mr Jóhannesson said.

In the meeting between Ms Nybakk and Mr Jóhannesson, the bilateral Norwegian-Icelandic relationship was discussed. Both emphasised two countries’ common interests in the north, especially related to the sea, fish and environmental issues. Also under discussion were the EEA and Brexit, as well as common global challenges related to climate and security.
